Document Revealed: DPP Chairman Shih Ming Te in 1995 — “A DPP Government Need Not and Will Not Declare Taiwan Independence”

This is the DPP’s history — from the days when the DPP still had leadership…

“Speaking in the United States, DPP Chairman Shih Ming Te stressed that Taiwan has already been independent for half a century, and that direct presidential elections have once again confirmed the fact that Taiwan is a sovereign, independent state … Therefore, if the DPP comes to power, it need not and will not declare Taiwan independence; and on the ‘China question,’ the DPP will not become a source of trouble in the Taiwan Strait.” — Liberty Times, September 15, 1995
